An Interview With Myself

An Insight Into Shari Nunes

So, I’ve been writing this blog for a while and I feel like I haven’t properly introduced myself. I have a love/hate relationship with my About page and I just don’t feel like it does me justice so after reading this article on Medium, I decided this will be a novel way to get to know me.

What motivates you more: failure or success?

Failure motivates me because in my head I have already made it but I know right now in the present I haven’t yet made it and not making that success a reality motivates me. However, success also motivates me too because I live by my own standards of success and not achieving them is a lot more scary to me than failing by the world’s standard.

You can ask anyone in the world a question. Who and what would it be?

I would ask Naomi Campbell what is her skincare regime.

If you could say one thing to your 85-year-old self, what would it be?

You better not be in debt because you know better.

If you could say one thing to your 15-year-old self, what would it be?

You are beautiful and I love you, babygirl.

Imagine money is no longer a thing. How would you spend your time?

I would spend my time luxuriating in luxury cosmetics, designer clothes, reading paper books, drinking coconut water and eating mangoes. And trying to pass my driving test. It’s taken me so long to learn and that has truly humbled me.

If you stripped away all the layers of other people’s expectations and desires for you, what would you want for yourself?

Clear skin, a large bank account, to be married at 30, travelled Mexico City to Bogota overland and to be an important voice in the cosmetic industry. Also the ability to buy all the luxury cosmetics that I could possibly want.

What’s one thing you’ve been putting off doing?

Losing weight.

What headline would you like to read in tomorrow’s newspaper?

Donald Trump and Ashton Kutcher has pulled off the greatest Punk’d ever.

What do you want to be written on your gravestone?

She wasn’t for everybody but for those who loved her, she was everything. 1 Cor 7:34.

What is a perfect day to you? Truly?

When I eat a truly delicious breakfast (I’m a fiend for french toast).
When my skin is clear, my hair is behaving and my eyebrows are perfection themselves.
When the sun is out and it warms my skin.
When my friends bring a smile to my face.
When I fall asleep to the sound of rain.
When I stream videos and it doesn’t buffer
When I eat plantain for breakfast.
When I eat plantain.
Plantain.

What do you find annoying in this great charade we call “modern life”?

The way how people refuse to accept that this “modern life” is extremely racist, sexist, anti-LGTBQ+ and islamophobic. That higher amounts of people being in interracial relationships doesn’t mean racism is gone. That the beauty and fashion industry favours the European ideal. That men think that female hygiene products are a luxury product. That people will act like the West is more progressive than the Middle East in regards to women’s rights but Donald Trump’s statement was called ‘locker room talk’ (because THAT’S NORMAL). The fact that we have borders and we use terms like “Illegal Immigrant” for our fellow brothers and sisters.
I could go on but there’s a lot of things that I find annoying about this “modern life”.
Nayyirah Waheed’s quote expresses how I feel about this clearly: “all the women inside me are tired”.

What are you most looking forward to, in life?

Falling in love with a man. I’ve lusted before but I’m excited about love with a man… it’s a heterosexual cliche but after watching the movies and listening to the songs some of it must be true. And if I’m never to fall in love, then seeing Africa. One of my dream trips is the Cairo to Cape Town trips.

If you could change just one thing in your past, what would it be? (And no, “nothing” is not an answer)

Believing in my gut feeling when my gut told me that this was a trash guy.

Would you want to be your own friend?

I am my one of my best friends!

Describe the last five years of your life in one sentence? And the next five years?

Last five years: Young, broke and in paradise
Next five years: Not so young, I better not be broke, but still in paradise

When did you last do something for the first time?

It was January 2016…I drank Aguadiente at Pasto’s carnaval. Do NOT listen to Colombians who say that their Aguadiente is the best. If you want to try Aguadiente, just drink bleach. Pretty sure both of them are the same.

How many hours a week do you watch TV? And browse the internet? If you added them up, how much time would you have to create something of your own, per week?

According to Rescuetime, about 8hours a week. But, as sad as it sounds, my hobbies is my source of income so fun time is always work time.

If I gave you 10k to start a business, what would you do with it?

Continue what I’m doing but invest in some better software. I’m very blessed to be doing what I love and 10k can go so fast.

So there you have it, just a small introduction to who I am. I hope that the more I blog the more you will get to know me. So look out for more from me.
